What’s the improved teaching experience?
The improved teaching experience makes it easier to understand how the Second Step® Elementary or Second Step® Middle School digital program fits into your entire week. When you go to teach a lesson, you’ll now see aligned supports clearly organized so you can reinforce learning before, during, and after instruction as well as throughout the week.
Why did you update the teaching experience?
We heard from educators that while Second Step programs offer many helpful resources, it wasn’t always clear how they connected or when to use them.
Teachers told us they wanted fewer clicks, less searching, and clear guidance on what goes together. This update helps bring everything into one place right at the point of teaching.
Does this add new lessons or change the curriculum?
No. Your lessons and scope and sequence remain the same. This update improves how you experience and access existing resources, making them easier to find, understand, and use together.
How does this help my day-to-day teaching?
The improved experience helps you:
- See what supports learning before the lesson
- Reinforce skills after instruction
- Extend learning across the week
- Connect classroom learning to families
- Support students who need more
All without needing to leave the lesson you’re teaching.
Will this add more work for teachers?
No. In fact, the goal is the opposite. This update reduces planning time by helping you quickly see what’s available and how it fits together, so you can choose what works best for your classroom without starting from scratch.
How does this support MTSS?
By providing suggested support materials for each lesson, the improved teaching experience helps make MTSS visible in practice by clearly connecting universal instruction to small group supports.
Can teachers still choose what works best for their classroom?
Absolutely. The experience provides guidance and alignment for decision-making, but teachers remain in control of what they use and when, with clearer visibility into available options.
Will this impact family engagement?
Yes. By surfacing family-facing resources alongside lessons, teachers can more easily communicate learning to families and reinforce skills at home.
Is there any additional cost?
No. The improved teaching experience is included as part of your existing Second Step Elementary or Second Step Middle School digital program at no additional cost.
When will this be available?
The updated teaching experience will be available at the end of June 2026 for the back-to-school season.
Where can I learn more?
Additional walk-throughs, guidance, and resources will be shared as we approach the back-to-school season to help educators get familiar with the updated experience.
