Improved Media
- Based on insights from usage analysis, feedback, and end-of-lesson surveys, we made updates to improve the clarity, quality, and age-appropriateness of Second Step Elementary media. For example, in Grade 2 Lesson 9, we replaced a static image of a roller coaster with a video clip to offer a first-person perspective of the experience and enhance student engagement. In Grade 2 Lesson 4, we replaced static images with a new two-part video. This change aims to improve the lesson’s effectiveness by overcoming the limitations of static imagery in conveying complex thoughts and emotions.
- In various instances throughout Second Step Elementary, we updated images to increase lesson clarity, age-appropriateness, quality of the lessons, and representations of diversity.
Improvements to the Family Access Experience
Throughout the 2023–2024 school year, we added new materials to the Second Step Elementary family access experience, including songs, Mind Yeti® mindfulness sessions, and Spanish-language resources. Additionally, all family communications have been made available in Canadian French to improve accessibility for French-speaking users.
