What happened on June 28, 2024?
Lesson materials and resources in the Second Step Elementary and Second Step Middle School digital programs were updated, along with a full class reset. To learn more about the class reset, read the Annual Class, Training, and Progress Reporting Reset FAQ.
Annual lesson updates coincide with the end of the school year to minimize interference during times when they’re actively being taught. Updates that are not lesson-specific also happen throughout the year—for example, to add new supplemental or reinforcement resources to the program. The following summary includes updates made on June 28, updates previously made during the 2023–2024 school year, and updates that are expected this summer and fall for the 2024–2025 school year.
Updates to Administrator Experiences
Improved Progress Reporting
- During the 2023–2024 school year, we added a Lesson Completion Snapshot that substantially improved progress reporting. This tool allows Second Step administrators at both the school and district levels to better monitor and support progress throughout the year.
- The snapshot allows district leaders to view lesson completion for all schools, and to sort by key data points in a summary table to quickly understand which schools are on track and which ones need support.
- The snapshot helps answer other important questions about progress, including whether and how much the program is being used, what the unit and grade completion percentages are at each and all schools, and how to interpret and act on the data. Exports include additional details, and the tool provides an FAQ-style data guide.
- The snapshot complements existing program adoption reporting. Now leaders can track both initial program adoption and ongoing use, giving them data to effectively oversee and support the program throughout the year.
Leader Implementation Checklist
- The K8 Leader Dashboard now makes it easier for school and district leaders to implement Second Step at their schools with the new, “Leader Checklist”. The Leader Checklist allows Admins to easily find the steps they need to complete for an effective implementation at their schools.
Improved Implementation Guide
The new Implementation Guide landing page will be updated to make it easier for school and district leaders to access key implementation materials. Updates will include:
- Direct links to the updated Implementation Playbook, which now features examples and guidance
- Links to articles with more in-depth guidance to support each step of the planning process
- Direct links to commonly requested implementation resources, making them even easier to find when you need them
