What’s happening on June 23, 2023?
On June 23, 2023, all class data for the Second Step® Elementary and Second Step® Middle School digital programs will be cleared. Training progress for the Second Step® Bullying Prevention Unit, Second Step® Child Protection Unit, and Second Step Elementary classroom kits will also be cleared and reset to start tracking progress for the new school year.
Why are classes, training, and reporting being reset?
We reset all class and training data at the end of each school year so teachers and license administrators will have a refreshed dashboard and program reporting for the new academic year.
How will this affect me?
If you’re an educator teaching the elementary and middle school digital programs: Your classes will be cleared. After June 23, you’ll need to create new classes before you teach.
If you’re an administrator accessing lesson progress reports in the elementary or middle school digital programs: The Lesson Progress Report page and downloadable detailed lesson CSV report show class activity for current classes, so when classes are reset on June 24, teachers will need to create new classes to see any progress. If you’re looking for a report from last year or the year before that, you’ll still be able to access and download it from the Lesson Progress Report page.
If you’re an educator using training resources in the elementary classroom kits: On June 23, training progress and certificates for the 2022–2023 school year will no longer be available. You will need to finish your trainings and print completion certificates before June 23, and wait until June 24 to start new training.
If you’re an educator using training resources in the bullying prevention or child protection units: On June 23, training progress and certificates for the 2022–2023 school year will no longer be available. You will need to finish your trainings and print completion certificates before June 23, and if you use the training completion report, be sure to download a copy in User Management before that date, because training progress will be reset for all the members of your license. Wait to start new training until June 24, when progress tracking and completion will begin again.
If you’re an educator using Second Step SEL for Adults: Your microlearning progress will remain intact. For more information about continuing your experience with the program into the next school year, please read this article: Second Step® SEL for Adults Program Reminders for the 2023–2024 School Year.
We are using the elementary or middle school digital program in summer school. What should we do?
If you create a class for summer school before June 23, it will be cleared on June 23, and you will need to create new classes starting June 24. We recommend that you wait until after the June 23 class reset to begin teaching lessons if you can, filling in with middle school advisory activities or activities from our community rebuilding units if you need content before the reset. You can find our community rebuilding units at the links below:
- Second Step® Elementary Kindergarten–Grade 1 Community Rebuilding Unit
- Second Step® Elementary Grades 2–3 Community Rebuilding Unit
- Second Step® Elementary Grades 4–5 Community Rebuilding Unit
- Second Step® Middle School Community Rebuilding Unit
If you’re unable to delay your summer school lessons, we recommend that you complete a full unit prior to the class reset. Please note: If you’re in the middle of teaching a unit at the time of the reset, the new lesson material may not go along with the previous lessons. Content across all grades and units in both the elementary and middle school digital programs will be updated in the reset. More information about those changes can be found here:
I want my staff to complete part of their training this summer. Do you have any advice?
All training progress will be reset June 23. We recommend that you schedule training to be completed by June 23 or to begin after the update so your staff will not have to repeat training modules to complete their progress.
I completed my training before the update. Will my certificate be available after the update?
No, last year’s certificate will not be available, so please download a copy before June 23.
As a license administrator, will I have to invite all the teachers and administrators to their program or training again after the reset?
No. All your current users will continue to have access to their program or training. Remember to add all incoming staff as users and to remove access to staff who have left your school.
I am a license administrator for the bullying prevention or child protection unit. Will my training data from before the update remain available in the training dashboard?
No, training completion data for progress prior to the update will be reset. Please download your training completion reports in User Management before the update.
What actions will teachers need to take to continue lesson progress reporting for the elementary and middle school digital programs?
The Lesson Progress Report page has a summary of lesson progress for this academic year. Separate detailed, downloadable reports are available for each academic year you’ve used the program since the 2020–2021 school year. When classes are reset on June 23, teachers will need to create new classes for the new academic year and lesson progress reporting will include them as part of the 2023–2024 school year.
