We recommend that you teach the digital program in its entirety first and then implement the Bullying Prevention Unit (BPU) and/or the Child Protection Unit (CPU). Building foundational SEL skills will help students better take advantage of the content in those units.
For example, cultivating empathy and problem-solving skills prior to implementing BPU will only help students better understand the impact of their actions on others’ feelings and how to use their perspective-taking skills to successfully deal with conflict.
If your district or school has a strong preference for teaching the Bullying Prevention Unit and/or the Child Protection Unit earlier in the year, we recommend teaching it after Unit 1.
Because units 2, 3, and 4 build on each other so heavily, we would not recommend implementing the Bullying Prevention Unit or the Child Protection Unit in between those units as it may feel like a disruption and make transferring those skills more difficult for kids (due to memory loss that would occur during the gap).
